From a theoretical point of view, however, the space opened to painting by linear perspective and the space opened to science by complex numbers are equally valuable and share significant characteristics. Deborah S. Patz has been a filmmaker on award-winning productions since the mid-1980s, primarily as a production manager and coordinator, and then as production executive. She has worked with Lucasfilm, IMAX, MCA/Universal, Alliance/Atlantis, Nelvana, BBC, CBC, the Disney Channel, and the list goes on. �A peek at her filmography includes L5: First City in Space, Mission to MIR, William Shatner’s TekWar, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Ewoks & Droids, Maniac Mansion, The Magician’s House, and The Big Comfy Couch, to name a few. Disappointing edition

One has to wonder if the other reviewers either didn't actually use this book or if they work for Barron's because this book is a very sloppy effort and should be an embarrassment to Barron's, especially the chief editor, Nathan Quinones. To begin with, anyone using previous editions of this book will notice that almost all of the errors remain in the book. Misspelling, misplaced accents, they're all still exactly where they were in previous editions of this book.

The CDs are especially a disappointment. Only 14 of the 31 chapters are recorded and do not have the conversational exercises in Part Four (the CD's are far from being filled to their 80 minute capacity). The story introductions are not recorded on the CDs, just the story dialogues, and Lesson 3 was omitted altogether. Additionally, the stories are not translated in the answer portion of the manual which significantly reduces the value of this book for self-study.

Nevertheless, with a good classroom instructor to guide the student through this book's many landmines, it can serve as a decent introduction to Spanish but lacks the perfection necessary to serve as a self-study book.

great format -- tons of typos

I have been using this book and find the format helpful. However, I have come across numerous errors/typos, which can be confusing for a beginning language student. Additionally, the CDs included with the book do not match the lessons. It is almost as if the CDs were made for an earlier edition and never updated.

He sets his sights not only on the racism that can’t be hidden, but also on the liberal platitudes that sometimes conceal the depths of that racism in “polite society.”

The Heart of Whiteness offers an honest and rigorous exploration of what Jensen refers to as the depraved nature of whiteness in the United States. Mixing personal experience with data and theory, he faces down the difficult realities of -racism and white privilege. He argues that any system that denies non-whites their full humanity also keeps whites from fully accessing their own.

This book is both a cautionary tale for those who believe that they have transcended racism, and also an expression of the hope for genuine transcendence. When white people fully understand and accept the painful reality that they are indeed “the problem,” it should lead toward serious attempts to change one’s own life and join with others to change society.
